Selfiesism – Inside Out

Video Dance _2017_7 MIN

The work questions the current use of Selfie, challenges it, breaks it and recreates it to suggest a new instruction manual for its utility.

Using the Selfie language the work is shot as a continual video thus capturing more than the standard single moment. The resulting image, free from conventional aesthetics, portrays a multidimensional self, accompanied by site and body-specific sound and music.

The movement is shown on a split screen, creating division and separation between the Selfie mode and the “objective camera” mode, between the face and the rest of the body. Beginning in sync, the body and the face along with the inside and outside points of view slowly become unsynchronized thus revealing the gap between how we want to be seen verses how we are seen.

Selfiesism – Dance Duet

Video Dance _2017_5 MIN

Two dancers: one in Jerusalem the other in NYC, meet in a virtual space. Each dances a solo in a faraway space while imagining dancing in a synchronized duet. The aesthetic of the Selfie frames their communication and which, in turn creates a new language that goes beyond the self.

Selfiesism- Dance Duet explores and challenges the current craze of Selfie – the overused self-portrait of a meticulously chosen pose of a face. Using the Selfie language the work is shot as a continual video thus capturing more than the standard single moment. The resulting image, free from conventional aesthetics, portrays a multidimensional self, accompanied by site and body-specific sound and music.
